manual transmission removal 700 1990

Hey folks,
Having a lot of trouble shifting 1-2, 2-1 in El Rojo Grande (745ti w/stick). Happened pretty suddenly, although I had a little trouble for a long time, but suddenly shifting is VERY tough. No noises, which is good, but trans oil change did not fix problem. I am going to try adjusting the clutch cable tomorrow, but in the meantime, could anyone explain what is involved in getting the trans out from under the car? The Haynes manual seems pretty good, but I am not sure about disconnecting the shifter before unbolting stuff underneath the car. Do I get to it from the passenger compartment, under the console, or can I get to it from underneath the car?

PS. Thanks to whoever had the solution to my oil cooler leak question. It was the o-ring, just as you suggested. Not an easy fix, but she's a no leak now!

P
