Alloy rim refinishing. 200

Here are a few pics of the set of 25 spoke rims I just refinished.

I used basecoat/clearcoat right out of a can. Instead of buying the $65/qt for a gun (not including clear) I spent $3. Not even. One can of primer, one can of basecoat, and one clear. Not even a buck apiece at Wal-Mart.

I've posted about doing this before, but never posted any pics. This job came out the best of all of the rims I've refinished this way, probably due to better temperature and humidity conditions.

Just finished this set to put on my 91 245 before I sell it. The rims were really ratty--all chipped and discolored from surface weathering where the original clear had come off.

Here's one of the rims before masking or priming. I prepped it already and took off the flaking, original clearcoat. For prep, I used SOS pads.

The second shot is of the rims after priming and two basecoats.

And the final picture is after two basecoats and two clearcoats. Finished. The overall finish is almost like glass, and the paint matches the center covers perfectly.
