Transmission 200 1986

1986 240 DL Wagon with 183K miles has been rock solid until this past couple of months. For awhile the automatic transmission had trouble shifting from first to second until it was warmed up. Now that seems okay, but it never wants to shift down to first, which make idling without stalling impossible--we have to shift to neutral when stopped, then shift to drive to get going. Transmissin fluid levels are fine. What's going on here? Any advice?
