Leccy Fan...click, whirr, smile. 200 1986

Hi Folks,

Just a note of general interest. I've just done the electric fan conversion using a fan and shroud from a UK Vauxhall Astra (I think GM sold these in the US as a Chevvy - they're Rabbit sized FWD hatches of 1.4 to 2.2 litres). The fan is slightly smller than the Volvo item and has less blades but seems to spin at a much higher speed.
The cunning bit - I used a spare heated rear window switch so I can override the thermo switch. Now in traffic I can start the fan spinning myself to get the air flowing BEFORE things start to cook.
I just can't believe how quiet it is now. Plus of course the benefits of faster warming up, better economy, improved power and potentially extended water pump life. Its win-win all the way.

Why don't more people do this conversion?

If anyone is interested in further details then let me know.

Regards,

Big Rich.
