One common culprit is the tie rod ends, in my experience inners first. You have way too much slop to be using the car, so this would be a good time to fix it. You have lifted it up and wiggled the front end. Look to see what is worn, and replace it. All four tie rod ends will not bankrupt you, nor will they take too long. You will need a professional alignment afterward, I expect.
