Brake Light Failure 700 1989

I have a 1989 740 GL Wagon. My brake light on the passenger has stopped working for some unkown reason. The indicator light told me that a light was not working. So I replaced the non functioning brake light. It still did not work. Upon further inspection I have found that the indicator light comes on all the time when I brake. However, when I do not have my lights turned on the brake light functions, eventhough the indicator light says its not. But when i turn my headlights or parking lights on the brake light does not work. I assume I have a short somewhere along the way. But I wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experiences or any suggestion before I begin tearing my car apart looking for the short.
Mike
