failed speedometer 200 1978

There is a flexible housing around the speedometer cable- this cable is driven by a gearset in the transmission. Taking it loose at both ends (at the speedometer and the transmission) will allow you to turn the inner cable and see if the other end of the inner cable turns. If you can turn the inner cable on one end without it turning at the other end then you probably have a broken speedometer cable.
