Transmission PNP switch 900 1996

I have had a Park-neutral-Position (PNP) switch failure in my 1996 960 wagon. The lights on the dash as well as the shifter went wacky and the check engine light came on. I could not get the flashing lights to stop untill I disconeected the negative cable from the battery. I now only have the check engine light on and the car is fine. I jacked up the car and looked for the PNP switch on the right side of the tranny behind the exhaust pipes and could not find any kind if switch, where is it? I foind a preasure or temp sensor on the left side in the fluid line. Where is this switch?
