I've been following this. Let's focus on the "high lead" solders as a weakness of Dexcool. This surfaced about 2 years ago on the Brickboard, so as a heavy Dexcool user I was rightly concerned. My conclusion, back then after deep study and contacting Prestone and Havoline, is that this is a myth. Plain and simple, there is nothing in the chemistry or the corrosion inhibitors of Dexcool products that make it any more corrosive to Sn/Pb, Sn/Ag/Pb solder or braze materials than old fashioned coolant. I even asked the coolant companies about mixing the coolants - not advised - but it just makes the Dexcool have a shortened life span (about the same as green/yellow stuff), it's not more "corrosive".

I'm not doubting what happened to you......what is the objective evidence that the solder/braze job was proper, with the correct alloy and the Dexcool "dissolved the solder". I have seen Nissens radiators leak out of the seams - brand new and after 6 months- and there was a rash of posts about it back then.

Both my Toychota truck and 245Ti have soldered/brazed radiators. The truck will be 4 years on Dexcool this spring and all is well. I need data points.

Also I highly doubt Mullah's car croaked because Dexcool attacks solder.
