Rocket fuel is either completely unvailable here (read: very expensive) or I just can't find it (read: unavailable)

I don't think Techron cuts it, Amsoil PI may, it seems to keep the 855 clean. (BTW that car has zero oil consumption as well). I have not recently, nor heavily dosed, the 245ti with Amsoil PI...easily worth a try.)

I was indeed thinking that the water injection wouldn't help the intake valve stem, but it may help the exhaust stem. OTOH, my problems (pinging) seem to be combustion chamber related. Again easy to rig a system - all avoid use a 200 gpm water pump - ie a small ws squirter should be ok and only push the button while under "full steam" to avoid the afformentioned hydrolock.

My biggest hassle is I'm not really due for my 10K oil change for another 3k!! (but I think I'll swap early....)
