Personally, I have always accomplished this with a 12 point 19mm deep socket. This will fit right over the plastic connector. Then a swivel ratchet works well to unscrew it. Of course it's infinitely easier to pull the manifold, but it really is unecessary.

All the plugs work the same on your car. You push the clip and pull the connector off. I always see my mechanic push the clip, then pry the connector off with a screwdriver. I do that now too.
If you find it next to impossible, remove the idle control motor so you have more space under there.
BTW: 19mm is from memory, double check before buying the socket.
