960 Gearbox Wont do anything 900

I have a Volvo 960 1991 with that oh so wonderful gearbox.

It has ceased to do anything, after half a mile the vehcile the will not move, and cannot select any gear. When put in gear a slight rocking is noticed.

The error codes come back with wrong gear selected.

The Volvo man has looked at it and said it all the fluids are ok

The reccomendation is to get a replacement gearbox for £1500 which after fitting may well cost the same as the value of the car.

There are no strange noises at all

Does anyone have any suggestions on this or should i just send the car to the happy hunting ground.
