Methods for tightening ALT belts on B21F...No Place to Pry!! 200 1982

I just replaced my alternator mount bushings, and also replaced the belts while I was at it. Alt now sits real straight and all squealing whining has stopped. But I think that I dont have the belts tight enough. At the end of a 150 mile journey, the battery indicator began to turn on very dim. (This was after I changed the bushings and belts.) Prior to this I havent had the light come on in the 15k I have owned the car. Supposedly, this indicates insufficient charging from the alternator. I am pretty sure the belts are loose, but there seems to be absolutely no good place to 'pry' the alternator tight while I tighten the adjusting nut. Anybody have any tips for this? I read a previous post saying use a wooden wedge. but I think that was on a B230F. Any prying, that I can imagine, would put pressure on the lower water pump fitting. Is there something I can do from below the car. Not sure on the age of the battery, always turns over well though. The alternator appears to be an easy removal, I might pull it and take it to a local shop to be tested/overhauled. (The brushes, regulator, diodes, etc.. are probably original.)
