Sunroof Repair 140-160

Has Anyone out there sucessfully repaired their crank sunroof? I have made one aborted attempt on a '83 240 but wasn't motivated enough to get all the way envolved. I now have a 71 140 with a "late model" 140 gl sunroof and the cable is loose or out of sync on one side. It's common problem as the crank gear jumps and then one side won't completely slide forward and raise up into the correct spot. This leaves the roof partially open.

I want to get this solved, and will "willingly" drop the headliner and start poking around. I would like to know if any of you have folloed this through and have any "shouldn't have done that" advice

Thanks
Scott
