Dexcool Problems in GM Vehicles

I never even thought of that, but the last Dexcool water pump that I pulled out looked new, and spun like brand new. I always replace timing belt/pump at 40-60k depending on the time of year and when I get to it, but I never even thought twice about it.

I'm just curious, is the Volvo-branded coolant REALLY a better formulation than the typical ethylene glycol brands? Other than that it says in the green manuals to use Volvo blue-green.

From the brand perspective, I'd say that they were missing out on one of the biggest marketplaces in the world by NOT selling such a formula on the aftermarket. I'm not being sarcastic, either--such a product should definitely have some benefit over the rest to command that kind of price tag. Either that or it's really just the name.

What IS the deal with it, if anyone really knows for sure? I know it's not easy to wrestle a formulation from those guys, but if anyone has perhaps done so, is the stuff really worth it?
