Why is the engine racing? 200 1985

The mechanic replaced the distributor, the "main fuse", plus regular tune-up items (wires, cap, rotor, plugs, air filter). The car ran great until today...
Wet plugs no spark..
Why replace the distributor? The other post is correct. Find another mechanic.
Idle control motor increases idle, that computer can fry with a bad idle motor.
There is more than one "computer" which one is the mechanic speaking about?
