Somebody knows a website/forum ? 700

Sorry folks! I know it does not belong here, but maybe somebody
knows a good website/forum about computers?
My problem is:
I bought a cd-burner and after hardwareinstallation windows98se
recognizes it and I can read from it.
After that following the Manual I enabled the DirectMemoryAccess.
That was wrong. Windows is hanging on startup.
When I start in Safe-Mode I can NOT disable the DMA because
this feature does not exist in SafeMode.
If I swap it with another device, the device on this secondary port
is not recognized in the controlpanel.
So it seems I have to find a way to disable the DMA-bit/flag.
I see 3 possibilities:
1.) I can discharge the CMOS battery, but I am not sure if the
DMA flag is set in the CMOS.
2.) I can re-install windows again-not sure if that helps
3.) If I know the windows file, I could try to debug it.

Somebody knows a website/forum where I can get help?
I hate micros$$t
Thanks a lot
Sorry Steve and Jarrod
