The car is an 1989 240 with automatic trans. Symptoms are as follows: Car has spark, but there is no fuel present to run the engine. I have cleaned all the grounds on the manifold and checked all the fuses. No positive results. I followed other advice and have switched 2 other fuel pump/system relays from 2 other volvo 240's but to no avail. The relays are not the problem. From that point i thought that it might be the ecu, so i switched the ecu with another that carried the same serial and model number. Still no start. Then i read that the rpm sensor activates the ecu to give grounded signal to fuel pumps to run. So I went and broke the infamous bracket that always breaks and replaced it with another and a new crank sensor. Figured that this would cure the problem, but still no start. The car will only run if i ground the blue/green (terminal 86/2) wire off of the white fuel system/pump relay. Once there is a ground present to this terminal via my test light, you hear the fuel pumps kick on when the ignition is switched on, but without the test light sticking into the terminal the engine will shortly die out as fuel supply is cut off. Why doesn't the fuel pump operate normally, what is the circuit that controls the fuel system and what is the fix? I've been hammering at this issue for some weeks now and am really becoming weary of this. Thanks.
