New fuel transport (in-tank) pump is LOUD

Hoping the noise would just go away on it's own, I drove the car around and noticed that the frequency of the pump noise varies quite a bit. With the engine idling, the pump warbles. Once at a stop sign, the frequency jumped, probably doubling.

Now I'm thinking "defective pump."

Anyone?
