Reading/adjusting idle mixture on CIS 200 1982

1982 240 GLT -turbo (CIS)

Based on exhaust residue and the spark plugs I believe my 82 turbo is running rich. I have an old dwell meter that I hooked up per instructions in Bentley. ie connect meter to Lambda-sond connector located forward on the inside of the fender and disconnect the 02 sensor. When I do that I get a reading of 38 degrees on the 6 cylinder scale of the meter and about 29 degrees on the 8 cylinder scale.

When checking point dwell on a four cylinder car you double the reading on the 8 cylinder scale. Would I do the same thing when using the dwell meter to check the idle mixture adjustment?? Specs is 42-48 degrees- obviously I'm not there on any scale!

In anticipation of adjusting the mixture I tried to locate the anti-tamper plug or the opening for the 3 mm hex wrench. I was unable to find anything that looked like it might be the adjustment.

Any help on the meter reading question or the location of the adjustment on the fuel distributor?? Thanks.

Randy
