Leaking coolant (question from the mechanically disinclined) 700 1989

Hey guys-

I noticed yesterday, when checking my oil, a small coolant leak emanating from the device that receives the top radiator hose into the engine. It was leaking from the seal between the block and this small unit (there appears to be a bracket of some kind on top of this; for what purpose it's there, I can't tell.) It's a small leak right now, and of course I'd like to get it fixed. My question is: is this the thermostat I'm looking at? I'm pretty new to the world of Volvos (and car repair in general.) Obviously, this could be a simple leak in a small gasket, but could there be a larger root cause I should be wary of? Thanks for helping out this novice.
