Mullah.. know about the Transmission on the 960 900

What happends when the gears are rounded in the transmition? Can they be replaced? Or does one have to buy a new transmition. I think that the gears might have been stripped. When I put the car in drive or reverse I get this Grinding noise and the car does not move at all. I checked the drive shaft and rear differential and both check out to be okay.If anyone can help me that would be really great. One other thought was that it could be the lock up torque converter. Thanks for any help.;
