new gauges in a 145, problems?!?!? 140-160

I am interested in installing new gauges in my 145. I would be wanting to completely redo the whole instrumentation. my idea was to just remove the old one. Mount the new ones in some lucite or thick plexiglass that would be cut to the same size. i am just wondering if anyone has done anything similar or would know of any problems i would run into. Or if there are gauges i should stay away from, so on and so forth. I was just wanting to do this with some backlit black gauges with white numbers, no pricy white face gauges that lite up blue or anything.
thanks
