760 sometimes dosn't give me power. (Movement power) 700

Good day. I am currently in ownership of a 1989 760 with a B280F engine. From what I understand her momma and grandma didn't always make the grade. I'll assume that for a second the French let Volvo do it's thing. Of course, I option to put synthetic in there.

Every so often, if I demand power from the engine, it will give me expected power until a certain point in the throttle, at which point it loses alot of power. This point changes from start to start, but not unless the engine is power cycled. It seems that once it passes that point, the higher it's revving, the more power it loses.

The solution so far has been to just let off the gas to find the point, and not exceed it until I can pull over and stop the engine. After a power cycle, it works like a charm... beating up Hondas and jumping large semis with a single bound.

I am attributing the problem to the fuel filter or air filter, likelyhood being the earlier. Of course, if this is a warning that the oil channels are clogged and the pushrods are about to give up the ghost, I would like to know.

Thanks in advance to all those who reply telling me my engine is not about to explode.
