Can a ignition switch cause intermittent stalling of the car and the fuel pump relay to not click on? 200

on my 82 wagon i noticed the red wire that got hot from the fuel pump relay went to the ignition switch. so after installing a brand new relay the same problem existed where the car wont start, it does turn over and the tachometer does move as i crank the engine over so i hope that takes the distributor out of the equation. but no fuel is getting to the engine. i tried jiggling the key and one time i got the fuel pumps to come on when the key was in the on posistion. could the ignition switch be the reason my car will not start and when it did run it would stall out and have to rest before it would start up again?
