Fred,
First, before you start the job, you'll need a new fuel pump and new copper sealing washers for the fuel line fittings. If you reuse the old ones, they will leak. When you look under there, you'll notice that the pump and accumulator are mounted in a little frame which bolts to the (undoubtedly rust-caked) bottom of the car. Unbolt the little frame and let it hang under the car. Disconnect the feed line from the pump (this is the line held on by a small hose clamp). Be ready with a suitable bolt or something to plug the line, or lots of gas will run down your arm into your hair, and everywhere else that you don't want gas. Replace the hose and clamp if theyre questionable. Now for the fun part. There is a very short plastic line that connects the pump to the accumulator. It has banjo fittings on each end with a through bolt and sealing washers. Have someone hold the little frame firmly while you unscrew the banjo bolt from the fitting on the pump end of the short fuel line. Once this is off, carefully disconnect the pump wires, loosen the clamp that holds the pump to the frame and remove it. Install the new pump and connect the wires and banjo fitting, making sure to use new seal washers and tighten the bolt snugly. Connect the feed hose, bolt the frame back to the bottom of the car, and dry any leaked gas from the fuel pump area. Switch the key on and off a few times (you should hear the pump run for a few seconds each time) and check for leaks. If no leaks, fire her up and go!
