replacement engine 700 1991

My understanding the 780T uses exactly the same B230FT motor as the one in the 740T, 760T and 940T.

Truly rabid Volvophiles favor the late turbo motor from the 93-95 model years which has oil-cooled pistons. Since 940Ts and 740Ts appear to get wrecked more often than they blow up, the supply-demand equation favors the purchaser of a used B230FT (you).

(ie. they're said to be real cheap if you shop around.)

As Chris Herbst has pointed out since most people don't go out planning to wreck their cars, used motors usually run well. One poster here recently mentioned that he had gotten a nearly new B230FT from a pick-n-pull for only a few bucks.
