'92 960 Timing Belt Question 900

The dealer wants about $300 to change my brother's timing belt on his '92 960. This includes parts and labor. Parts include the belt and tensioner. The dealer said that the '92 was the only 960 that required a replacement tensioner when the belt is changed.

My question: Is this BS? The dealer in my city changed my timing belt on my '94 960 and said nothing about a new tensioner. Is there something different about the '92 that requires a new tensioner? Does it make any difference whether the '92 has had the modification to increase the interval from 20,000 miles to 30,000 miles?
