Leaking Rear Main Seal on '90 744 - How serious is this? 700

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 90 740 GL Sedan. I like the car very much & although it has 177K miles on it you'd never know, it looks good and runs very well.

The bad news is I took it for an oil change last week and the tech informed me it has a slight leak from the rear main seal. I've kept an eye on it ever since and sure enough there's a small spot (about the size of a quarter) under the car every morning.

My question is if I leave this just now & keep a close watch on the oil level am I running a big risk of it suddenly becoming much worse?

I do plan to get it repaired eventually but can't really afford to just now and choke on coughing up for big repair bills on a car I've only had two weeks...

Any thoughts?

Thanks
