Major boneheaded maneuver (or 'dropped nut down into lower timing belt cover') 700 1988

Hi,

Today I was almost done replacing the water pump when I sheared off the upper bolt. Luckily, there was enough of the bolt left sticking out that I was able to get ahold of it and extract it with a pair of vice grips. Unfortunately, while removing the nut that goes on the rightmost stud I dropped the nut down into the lower timing belt cover. I don't want to remove the cover, as this would require removing the lower pulley. How can I get the nut out? I tried using a long slender magnet, and one of those spring loaded "grabber" things, but had no luck. The nut has ended up in the very bottom of the cover, so I can't actually see it.

Thanks!

Esau
