760 GLE wagon CSB thumping?? 700 1987

Our 87 automatic turbo wagon had been doing well, but my wife drove it to retrieve a desk she bought and called with a description of a screech and thumping. When I got there, the car did screech slightly in reverse and as it rolled forward from a stop. But it also felt as though someone was beating the floorplan with a ball peen hammer! It locate it behind the shifter (automatic). Looking at the Chilton, I'm guessing CSB. What should I know about sourcing and R&R?
