1992 - 964 - A/T locking in O/D low speed 900 1992

Can anyone help me try to diagnose this transmission shift problem? It seems to have my service guys baffled. After the car heats up after about 1 hour of driving, I notice the transmission seems to lock in Overdrive as I pull up to a light or stop. The RPM gage will just about go to 0, the car sputters, and it "pops" out of gear and the RPM goes to normal idle. This is very intermittent. My mechanics are good however, we have tried a newer computer, which seemed to work, but not entirely. The next suspicion is either the torque converter, throw down cable or shift solenoids. I need to minimize my expenses on this car as I have already invested more than its current market value. I love the car, however this is really the only quirk it has right now (knock on wood). I was wondering if any of you have had any success with this scenario. Your expertise assistance is much appreciated.
