What turbos were made when?

'81-'85 240 GLT/Turbo had the B21FT engine, 2.1L, 7.5:1 compression, and a large Garrett turbo. The '81-'84 models w/o intercooler were about 127HP and about 150 ft-lbs torque. The intercooled models in '83 and '84.5-'85 had about 160HP and about 180 ft-lbs torque.

The 740, 760, 780, & 940 Turbo ranging from '84 to '95 had a B23FT ('84) or B230FT ('85-) engine. 2.3L displacement and 8.7:1 compression. The '84-'89 models had larger turbos than the '90-'95 models, so the early cars have better top end power and the later models have better low end response. The '90-on models also had better flowing manifolds. The piston cooling started in '93. The B23FT ('84 only) had a forged crank, rods, and pistons. The B230FT had a cast crank. From '85 to about '89, the B230FT had smaller 9mm con rods. From around '89 to '95, the B230FT had larger 13mm con rods. The latest blocks were the strongest ('95 being the best). The 2.3L turbo engines made slightly more power & torque than the B21FT.

I don't know all of the specifics on what turbos were used, but I think the B21FT and the '84-'89 700 series used a Garrett T3. All turbos through MY'86 were non-watercooled from the factory. The '90-'95 turbo cars had either a Garrett T25 or a Mitsubishi turbo TD04. All 7/9 series turbo cars had an intercooler.
