2 questions...carb vent holes and rear ash-tray. 140-160 1972

Hello.
I have always thought about these 2 things, but never came around asking.
1st: The vent holes on the carbs. (B20, HS6s) Where do I connect it to... I don't like the idea of fumes every where under the hood.
2nd: How do I remove the rear ash-tray... it's now full of ash now...:)
