Engine backfired then ran lousy after, figured a vacuum leak but all hoses were good....... 700 1988

Turns out it was a leak, after going over every thing with a fine tooth comb, I noticed a bit of oil on the side tank of the intercooler, I removed the IC, put water in it, and it leaked! I took off the side tank, cleaned up the surfaces and gasket, put it back together and it holds about 20 psi of air.
I don't think it leaked before and if it had been a smaller leak I might not have found it (thanks to my turbo for pushing oil). Has anyone played around with pressurizing their air system (after AMM to TB) to check for leaks? I'm considering it.
