RPM sensor on '89 740GL, 8-valve 700

Hi, there!
I purchased a RPM sensor (genuine Volvo part)and its cord appears to be significantly shorter than that of installed on my car. From what I can see under the hood is the current sensor's cord runs from the connector on the firewall down and behind the engine's block to bell housing. I can't quite see the whole cord, though. The new sensor's cord is not nearly as long, so I'm curious if there is an extension cord of some kind that has a connection behind the block that I can't see? Are there more than one RPM sensors made for 1989 740GL?

Thanks in advance,

Val
