very poor warm idle 700 1990

My 1990 740 Turbo (wagon, automatic) runs just fine when the engine is cold. After warming up, it idles fine in Park or Neutral, but won't hold in Drive or Reverse. As the RPMs drop, the boost guage shows the turbo spooling up(?!) and as the gauge hits the indication of 0 boost/0 vaccum the engine dies. If I give it gas (to go forward etc...) there is a long hesitation, then a rush of power even just tapping the throttle. Mostly I'd just like to be able to stop for red lights again ;-) without the car stalling out on me. The Throttle body was just cleaned, I've yet to check the plugs myself, but the mechanic who did the TB said they looked fine.

Does this sound like a vaccum hose leak, an intake manifold leak, or something else to you guys? The puzzle is that it only happens when the car is up to temp.
