Strange 164e knocking noise...update #3. Rats! 140-160 1972

Well..ever since I bought that 164, its had that strange knocking noise. I immediately ruled out a rod or main knock, and at first thought it was timing gears... But then, it wasn't consistant...so I pulled the belts thinking it was an accessory. Still knocked. So...I started pulling pushrods and found some where obviously making contact, so I figured that was it...'till now.

Timing gears. 'Nuff said. I didn't make it to my cabin, but I got to the bottom of the driveway. Which is lucky considering I had mis-diagnosed the problem to be non-serious, and I was trusting the car to make interstate travel had the trip come up. So...it died at home. Of course, trying to get up a steep driveway in snow with no chains can get pretty abusive, so I'm not surprized that them gears gave up the ghost where they did... I'll get it fixed soon hopefully. Hopefully I'll find the broken teeth, 'cuz I really don't want to pull the oil pan.
