WHY WON'T THIS THING START??? 700 1989

Hi Matt -
Thanks for the quick response. I'll double check the timing belt and see if anything is wrong. I lined up the marks on the belt with those on the pulleys, but the belt "walks" around the gears, so it's hard to look at it every revolution.
I'm going to take the front cover back off and see if I can tell anything again.
The reason I've changed the motor? This thing developed an oil leak, and my daughter (slightly) misjudged how long it would go before it ran OUT of oil. Developed a knock and a miss. When I removed the oilpan, half of a connecting rod fell out! Pretty amazing that it didn't even knock a hole in the block! A testimony of how tough these little engines are!
