coolant temp. sensor (83 TURBO) 200

Hello Brickboard, need your help

I need to remove the coolant temp. sensor, drivers side top rear of the block under intake, I've got a good line of sight to it from the top side and I'm sure I can get a socket and extention on it, but how do I get in there to get the connector off? Whats the best approach, top or bottom? And someone please tell me how you are supposed to take those Bosch connectors off without F-ing them up.

Thanks, P.S. I do have a set of those foot long needle nose pliers, both straight and angled, If they will help.
