M47 Gearbox conversion for 82' 244 GLE.

Hi everyone my name is Leigh.

I live in Australia and own a silver 1982 volvo 244 GLE. I have made a few small mods to my car i.e. ram pod air filter, headers, sports exhaust system, etc.
I currently have a M46 4speed w/o the electric o/d, my current box is getting to the end of it's useful life and I would like to upgrade to the M47 from a 87' 740.
Due to the fact that I live in Australia information about volvo's is quite scarce, the wreckers I deal with mostly don't seem to want to know about modifications and aren't willing to help!
After doing some research on brickboard and the www I have found that the M47 will fit my B23E motor, but overall the M47 for the 740 is a couple of inches longer than my M46.

My questions are..

Are the gearshift supports that are attached to the back of the M46 and M47 gearboxes the same length?

If not would putting the gearshift support from a M46 onto the M47 box make it the correct length, so that when installed the gearstick will go through the origional hole in my 244?

Finally where in America or Sweden would I be able to source a gearstick support bracket that is the correct length? ( I can source an M47 box in Australia, importing a whole gearbox would prove to be rather expensive! )

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards Leigh.
