Switch seat bottoms to even out wear? 700 1986

Hi everyone - I just came up with a brilliant idea that I gave up on midstream. I decided it would make sense to switch the driver's and passenger's seat bottom in my 744 (driver's leather worn and cracked, though no holes, fixed one with superglue). I got the driver's seat bottom off, but discovered that there is a wire going from the seat heater to the lumbar heater that would either need to be cut, or I would have to remove either the seat heater or the lumbar heater to make the switch. I thought seriously about cutting the wire and getting a new metal end from Radio Shack, but chickened out. Does anyone have any experience with this? It just seems to make sense to switch the two so the wear can be evened out. My passenger seat bottom has virtually no wear, while the cracks on the driver's are threatening to split. Thanks for all your help. I couldn't make it without all of you.
