rear lights doing strange things 200 1988

My 1988 Volvo 240D had the right rear lights out. I replaced the passenger side tail light assembly but after reconnecting everything some strange things started to happen. When my lights are on and I put on my brakes, my left taillights go out. When my lights are off, my brake lights seem to work fine. When I put on my right blinker, the whole passenger rear lights go nuts. The brake light alternates with the blinker, the reverse light comes on along with the fog lamp light (which I couldn't get on at all earlier). It seems as though I may have a bad harness???? Any suggestions???? Thanks.
