K block 700 1987

The K block was introduced early in the 1988 model year as a running change. Volvo continued to use the puny 9 mm connecting rods until early in the 1989 model year, when the 13 mm connecting rods were introduced as a running change. In my opinion the 13 mm connecting rods are just as sturdy as the B21/B23 connecting rods. All red engine connecting rods are forged.

I have a 90 model year B230FT in my 1987 745T. It came with the large connecting rods.
