88 740 taillight question 700 1988

First, I am checking as to what lights in the taillight cluster should flash when the directionals are on. When right-turn is selected, the top yellow light flashes. When left-turn is selected, the bottom, left-most red light in the cluster flashes and the back-up light appears to flash dimly. I think the right-turn is correct and the left is screwed up somehow. I've replaced all of the bulbs, cleaned the contact on the circuit board, bent the tabs down on the sockets for better contact, no apparent corrosion. Of course, the 'lights-out' light is illuminated on the dash cluster, although the only lights that don't work now are the license plate lights. (Are these tracked by the 'lights-out' sensor as well?) Any ideas on where I should start on the left taillight? Thanks in advance.
