I have this exact same problem, someone told me it may be the alternator, (might need new brushes etc...) My voltage gauge typically reads in the red and my battery is relatively new. I just recently removed, overhauled, and replaced my engine wiring harness as well as cleaning all grounds. I might try and get the alternatr brushes changed soon, I'll try and post back and let you know how it goes.
