Engine question....................... 700 1991

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what B230FT my 740 has. I'm trying to figure out if it has the large connecting rods or not. I have a fairly knowledgeable Volvo mechanic and he doesn't know how to tell short of pulling a piston and measuring the connecting rod. My car is a '91 745T built in 9/90 in Halifax Nova Scotia. I haven't been able to find a "K" anywhere on the engine block, so I'm assuming that my engine is the version that came after the one with the "K" on the block. My engine's head was built sometime in '90 (I forget the month), but I guess that doesn't tell me much. My mechanic says that my Volvo may have an older engine because they *may* have still had older ('88-'89?) engines in stock when they built my car in late '90. My mechanic had a '93 940T in being worked on yesterday and he insisted that it had a better engine then mine. I said: "Huh?, I thought piston cooling didn't come until '94??" He said: "Your right, but this one has the larger, offset connecting rods." I said: "But I thought we weren't sure weather mine had them or not?" Well, that got him going, and for the millionth time he explained why he thought my engine had the small connecting rods. He said the ones with the large, offset connecting rods didn't develop piston slap. My B230FT has very noticeable slap below ~1300 RPM. How can we tell what version of the B230FT my Vo has without ripping it apart?????? I'm VERY curious. According to the info I have read here, it *should* have the post-"K"-stamped engine WITH the large connecting rods, right? I'd really like to know. Thanks VERY much for any help :)
