OK all you electrical geniuses .... Took the old girl out for a short run today seeing as the sun was out and the roads reasonably dry ... and as I was driving along ... all of a sudden the red generator light started to pulse at about a 1 second interval when the revs dropped below 2000. The car has a GM Alternator installed .... so I got out and checked the fan belt ... a little slack but not outrageously so .... checked all the connections to the alternator ... all seemed tight ... took the cap off the fuse panel and gave all the fuses a good roll just for good measure because the car has been sitting most of the winter ... started her up and headed back down the road and hadn't gotten very far and the same thing happened again ... so continued home on the highway at speed no red light, but as soon as I dropped down to 2000 rpm back it came ....
In the past I did have problems with a slipping fanbelt but additional strengthening of the alternator mount has cured that problem ... but will look into finding a alternator adjustment bar that is a tad longer just in case ... have noticed on occassion that I will get a dull glow from the Alternator light if I am running a lot of stuff with a heavy draw ... ie headlights , wipers and heater fan all at the same time .... Beginning to wonder if this alternator may need brushes (if alternators use brushes) .... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ....
