HI.. I have a 1989 780 and I like the car. I have had to do a lot of stuff to the car to keep it going. My last escapade was that the wire to the engine temp sensor went bad at the connector...but it took 3 mechanics and $200 to find it. Imagine if you had an intermittant problem..this problem was right in your face.
It would start cold but flood if it was warm. I had tried to take apart the connector at the LH brain..but didnt see the tiny holes the book talked about to put your ohmeter..maybe they changed those connectors. Then I had to go change the waterpump cuz the top seal leaked. Like I said..it's little things..Like I dont like the idle feeling ..it can get rough..etc. but not when you put the air on and it's up another 100 rpm. Here comes the question...these b230ft engines are a lot of work to keep them in tip top shape. How does the 4 turbo compare with the 6 cylinder found in the 960 series in terms of upkeep and durabilty. I had a diesel..and a turbo diesel volvo and the piston rings and valves were a source of problems on those cars... Are the 6 cylinders work to keep them going. Are the engine blocks prone to cracking or warping in the 960's. Thanks...
