Hot fuel pump fuse/cause stumbling? 200 1983

Hi guys,
I thought I fixed the stumbling on my 242glti the other day by rewiring the main fuel pump. The ground wire had worked loose and was just barely connected.
Tonight, however,as I was coming home the car seemed a bit sluggish and as I was going up a hill started to stumble again under boost.Well I figured the fuse might be hot again and sure enough when I reached down and felt the fuse cover over the #7 fuse,it was sure enough hot.
Would a hot fuel pump fuse cause the car to stumble intermittantly? The car ran great for three days after I rewired the fuel pump.
Thanks again.
